A Technical Excursion to the Tuzluca Salt Cave was Organized

Mimarlık ve Şehir Planlama Bölümü Öğrencilerinden Tuzluca Tuz Mağarasına Teknik Gezi

Students from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Iğdır University's Vocational School of Technical Sciences took a technical field trip to the Tuzluca Salt Cave in the Tuzluca district of Iğdır on May 7, 2025, as part of their "Land Surveying" course. The trip was organized to reinforce their theoretical knowledge by participating in field practices within the scope of the "Land Surveying" topic.

Instructor Mitat Can Yıldız, who accompanied the technical tour, briefed the students on the mapping activities and surveying techniques carried out in the cave areas. Yıldız highlighted the challenges encountered in mapping underground structures and the specialized surveying methods used, emphasizing the importance of techniques such as location determination, orientation, volume calculations, 3D modeling, and detailed planning in caves.

Students who explored the cave's natural structure had the opportunity to observe the area's geological and topographic features. Sample surface measurements and application studies were also conducted in the surrounding area, providing a hands-on learning environment. This allowed students to apply their theoretical knowledge of basic surveying, such as coordinate systems, distance measurement techniques, elevation, and area calculation, to the field and gain practical experience.

At the end of the technical visit, students participated in the field data analysis process, assessing both the natural and cultural significance of the site and its surveying practices. The students stated that this exercise was a significant step in enhancing their professional competence.

As the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, we will continue to provide hands-on training and technical trips that will contribute to the professional development of our students.
