Scientific Contribution by a Faculty Member from Our Department to the X Symposium on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems
Research and studies prepared with the contributions of faculty members from our Department of Architecture and Urban Planning were presented at the 10th Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems Symposium (UZAL-CBS 2026), held between October 15–17, 2026, at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Congress Center of Karadeniz Technical University in Trabzon.
Within the scope of the symposium, a study titled “Land Use and Land Cover Classification Using Classical and Quantum-Based Support Vector Machines”—prepared by Fevzi Daş, Mitat Can Yıldız, Rüştü Çallı, Emirhan Özdemir, and Aliihsan Şekertekin—was presented by Assistant Professor Fevzi Daş. The study provided a comparative analysis of the use of classical and quantum-based support vector machines for land use and land cover classification.
Assistant Professor Emirhan Özdemir presented his study titled “Comparison of Different Cloud-Filtering Methods for Sentinel-2 Imagery Across Multiple Study Areas.” In this study, various cloud-filtering methods applied to Sentinel-2 satellite imagery were evaluated and compared across several different study areas.
The symposium, where research in the fields of remote sensing and geographic information systems was shared, provided an important forum for discussing scientific work and fostering the exchange of knowledge among researchers.
During the visit to Trabzon, which took place as part of the symposium, we also met with our former student, Bülent Altun. He graduated at the top of his class from our Mapping and Cadastre program and subsequently enrolled at Karadeniz Technical University through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). Our faculty members chatted with our graduate about his educational journey and wished him continued success in his academic life.
We thank all the researchers who contribute to the scientific work of our department, and we congratulate our faculty members who presented their research at the symposium.
