KA171 Erasmus Partnership is Developing: Our Department's Academics in South Africa

Professor Dr. Aliihsan ŞEKERTEKİN and Lecturer Rüştü ÇALLI, both faculty members from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, visited the University of South Africa (UNISA) in South Africa as part of the 2024–2025 Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility Program.

This visit has been an important step in developing academic cooperation between the two universities, increasing the sharing of knowledge and experience, and strengthening international relations. During the visit, our academics had the opportunity to share their scientific studies and evaluate new partnership opportunities.

During the visit, two separate seminars were conducted by our academics:

  • “Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Applications in Climate, Agriculture, and Environmental Monitoring: Studies from Iğdır Üniversitesi”
  • “Remote Sensing Applications in Civil Engineering”

These seminars presented current research conducted at Iğdır University and discussed in detail the use of multi-sensor data (UAV, optical, and SAR data) in environmental monitoring, agricultural applications, and climate studies. Furthermore, comprehensive assessments were made regarding the role of remote sensing technologies in infrastructure monitoring, land analysis, and sustainable engineering applications.

In addition to the seminars, various meetings were held with academics from the UNISA Civil Engineering Department and the College of Science, Engineering & Technology. These meetings addressed topics such as developing joint research projects, collaborating on academic publication processes, and increasing future student and staff mobility.

The hospitality extended by UNISA academic staff and the academic environment provided during the visit contributed to the fruitful progress of the collaboration discussions.

This mobility demonstrates that Iğdır University continues to expand its academic networks in the African continent in line with its internationalization vision. It is expected that such activities, carried out within the scope of the KA171 program, will transform into long-term and sustainable academic collaborations and increase scientific interaction.
