Our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Aliihsan Şekertekin, was invited as a keynote speaker to the AIRQUEST International Symposium, organized within the scope of the “BSB00168 – Know What You Breathe: Mobilizing Communities for Air Quality in the Black Sea Basin (AIRQUEST)” Project, which is supported by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program and in which Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University is among the implementing partners.

At the symposium held at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University between April 27-29, 2026, Prof. Dr. Şekertekin shared his presentation titled "Monitoring Air Quality from Space: A Remote Sensing Perspective" with the participants, providing important information on the role of remote sensing technologies in monitoring air quality, their current applications, and their future potential.

Expressing her pleasure at participating in the symposium, which brought together researchers and experts working in the fields of air quality, sustainability, and environmental monitoring, Prof. Dr. Şekertekin thanked those who contributed to the organization of the event.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Şekertekin also touched upon the special place Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University holds in his academic life, stating that he completed his undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies at this university, and also served as a research assistant in the Geomatics Engineering Department. Expressing that Zonguldak has always been like a second home to him, Prof. Dr. Şekertekin emphasized that returning to his university as a guest speaker was both an emotional and inspiring experience.
