Programming Seminar for GIS and Remote Sensing Applications Held
A seminar titled “Programming for GIS and Remote Sensing Applications” was held by Asst. Prof. Fevzi DAŞ, one of the faculty members of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, on January 5, 2024. The seminar was held both face-to-face and online with the participation of department students and academicians.
The seminar touched on the current usage areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies and the importance of these technologies in various disciplines. The opportunities offered by GIS and Remote Sensing applications in areas such as environmental management, urban planning, agriculture, natural disaster analysis and land use were emphasized.
Asst. Prof. Fevzi DAŞ also drew attention to programming languages, which are one of the basic building blocks of these technologies, in the seminar. In particular, examples were shared on how the Python programming language is used in GIS and Remote Sensing processes. Seminar participants were informed about open source libraries, data processing techniques and algorithm development and had the opportunity to see applied examples of these languages. In particular, Landsat satellite data and processing of open data sources were supported with practical and theoretical explanations.
The seminar provided insightful information for those interested in GIS and Remote Sensing, while raising awareness of the contributions of programming-based applications to these areas. The event, which also featured online participation, reached a wide audience and attracted great interest from both academic and sectoral perspectives.
Stating that such events are of great importance for students and researchers, Asst. Prof. Fevzi DAŞ thanked the participants for their interest and shared the information that more comprehensive training programs and workshops could be organized in the future.
