Orientation Training Held for First-Year Students
An orientation session was organized by the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Iğdır University’s Vocational School of Technical Sciences to help newly enrolled first-year students adapt more easily to university and vocational school life.
During the training program held with the participation of our department's academic staff, students were first provided with comprehensive information about Iğdır University, the Vocational School of Technical Sciences, and the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. In addition to the university's academic and administrative structure, the facilities and opportunities available to students throughout their educational journey were introduced.
As part of the orientation program, information was provided regarding the scientific, social, cultural, and sporting activities held at our university and school, and emphasis was placed on the importance of students actively participating in activities that contribute not only to academic success but also to their personal and social development.
In the academic information session of the training, detailed explanations were provided regarding the curricula of the programs the students would be pursuing, the courses to be taken each semester, course contents, teaching methods, assessment and evaluation processes, and the tools, equipment, software, and other educational materials to be utilized. Additionally, the department's educational structure, the academic responsibilities expected of students, and key points to consider throughout their studies were addressed.
Information sessions were also held regarding the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) and the KPSS Associate Degree Exam to support students in planning their post-graduation careers. General information was provided on undergraduate programs accessible via the DGS, the KPSS Associate Degree exam process, and employment opportunities within public institutions. Furthermore, the importance of planning career goals at an early stage was emphasized by highlighting examples of public personnel appointment scores and employment processes for graduates of these programs in recent years.
The program also incorporated topics aimed at fostering social awareness among students. In addition to information regarding a "Terror-Free Turkey" and issues of social peace and security, insights were shared to raise awareness about habits that can lead to negative individual and societal consequences—such as substance abuse, gambling, betting, and games of chance. Emphasis was placed on the importance of students leading a healthy, safe, and informed university life.
Following the orientation session, photographs of technical trips, seminars, conferences, student club activities, social responsibility projects, scientific events, and other departmental activities from previous years were shared with the students to provide a closer look at the academic and social aspects of the department. This served to convey that students would be part of a comprehensive educational process—supported by practical work and diverse activities—rather than receiving solely theoretical training.
At the conclusion of the training, our department's faculty members answered the students' questions and provided necessary guidance regarding the academic and administrative processes they might encounter during their university life.
As the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, we wish all our newly enrolled students success in the 2026-2027 academic year and hope they have a fruitful, productive, and wonderful university life.
