Our department's faculty member, Prof. Dr. Aliihsan ŞEKERTEKİN, represented our university at the IEEE M2GARSS 2026 Symposium.
Our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Aliihsan ŞEKERTEKİN, successfully represented our university and department by presenting a poster at the prestigious international symposium IEEE M2GARSS 2026 (Mediterranean and Middle-East Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium), held in Marrakech, Morocco, between April 22-24.
At the symposium, organized for the fourth time this year by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS), one of the world's most prestigious professional organizations within IEEE, and bringing together global developments in the fields of earth sciences and remote sensing, the study titled "Explainable Ensemble Learning Framework for Surface Soil Moisture Retrieval in Sunflower Fields Using Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 Fusion," co-authored by Prof. Dr. Aliihsan ŞEKERTEKİN, was shared with the participants.
This scientific study examines the monitoring of soil moisture, a critical factor in agricultural management and irrigation planning, using satellite technologies. In the study, conducted in sunflower fields in the Zile district of Tokat, Sentinel-1 SAR (radar) and Sentinel-2 optical satellite data were integrated with modern artificial intelligence-based ensemble learning algorithms to obtain highly accurate prediction models. The research also presents a significant innovation to the literature by incorporating an "explainable artificial intelligence (SHAP)" architecture that makes complex machine learning decisions transparent and understandable.
We congratulate our esteemed professor and colleagues for successfully promoting the name of our department in international scientific arenas, and wish them continued success.
